A Father, his Boy and an Airline Ad.
I heard the following story a number of years ago and it has stuck with me. I believe the first time I heard it was from an audio cassette from Earl Nightingale's program entitled Lead the Field. I am sure what we all take from the story will be different. I take that if I focus on what is important in my life and to those around me everything else will fall into place. This is my version of the story. I am sure Earl's words were far more elegant. Enjoy.
A father is at home one Sunday afternoon with his five year old son. The father wants to spend the time watching the football game but his son is ‘nagging’ him to play. So, the father grabs a page out of the newspaper with a full page airline ad on it showing the world from outer space. He tears up the page into a bunch of pieces and throws it all on the floor. He tells his boy to show him how smart he is and tape it all back together and he went back to watching the game.
Within a surprisingly short period of time the boy had it all put back together and was mighty proud of himself. He goes to his father and shows him the good work.
The father is astonished at how fast he did it and asks the boy how he put the world together so quickly.
The boy notes that there was a picture of a man on the other side and that he just put the man together and the world was all together too.
The father took a deep breath and gave his boy a huge hug. He told his son that he was absolutely right 'when the man is all together, his world is all together too'.
