There is a Book in You
Writing a book has been on my mind for at least the past fifteen years. The root of the desire took hold in my early twenties when I read a number of books with similarities: The Greatest Networker in the World (John Milton Fogg), Mach II With Your Hair on Fire: The Art of Vision & Self Motivation (Richard Brooke), As a Man Thinketh (James Allen), The Science of Getting Rich (Wallace D. Wattles), and others.
These books enabled me to see something that had been inside me all along. Before I read the books, this thing was not crystallized, but with each subsequent reading the desire to turn my life into something special in my own eyes became stronger and stronger.
By reading these books I discovered the power of the written word, and the seed was planted in my mind to someday write a book that would enable entrepreneurs and new sales professionals to overcome their fears of selling. Every day I meet people who have, deep within them, incorrect beliefs about what selling is. It is my hope that my book, It’s Time to Sell will help them.
I will be giving away 100 copies on October 10th. I will pick at random from my newsletter subscribers. So, if you want to be included click here and subscribe to my newsletter.
Yesterday evening, while out for a walk with Jennifer and our older dog Sophie, I ran into Nicole, the woman who manages the dog grooming salon just down the road from our house. She was walking two dogs. We chatted with her briefly. I noticed that her arms were full of scars, and I said, “Wow, is that from all the dogs you have groomed over the years?” She replied, “Yes, and I wouldn’t trade in any of them.” Nicole’s story can help the millions of people who are looking to find joy in what they do for a living. There is at least one book inside Nicole.
Every Wednesday night I have a chat with my good friend Mark. Mark is a school teacher who also has a knack for helping people find purpose in life. Mark got married a few years ago, and within weeks of getting married his wife contracted Lyme disease. Mark is one of the most inspiring people I know. Despite the hardship, he has a glow about him that lights up any room. There is at least one book inside Mark.
My dad is a retired printer. Dad worked through the ups and downs of the printing industry. At one time, he was the only four-color printer in eastern Canada. He printed over one thousand covers of The Newfoundland Herald. When he retired he began playing guitar in a bluegrass band. He has always been good at woodworking and building things, and he recently took on a part-time job at the local building supply store as a means of keeping busy and helping others with their do-it yourself projects. There is at least one book inside Dad.
Upon learning that they are unable to have children, my sister Carolynn and her husband, Neal, decided to follow in the footsteps of Neal’s parents by becoming foster parents. They have embraced their first foster child as their own and are very happy. Their child is very happy as well. There is at least one book inside Carolynn.
My goal in writing this article is to inspire you to look within yourself at your own story. There are thousands, if not millions, of people who can benefit from your story, and a book is one of the best ways to tell a story and reach people. A book is something that you carry around for life and feel proud of having written. It starts with the decision to help others.
