Step 6: Assignment - Your 24-Hour Mood Clock

Your mood tends to cycle through predictable periods of optimism and pessimism each day. 

The gloomiest outlook usually settles in on you in the wee hours of the night around 4:00 AM. When you first wake up, you’re most likely to worry, ruminate about what’s gone wrong in the past, and dread the challenges of the day ahead. Lying in bed usually just makes it worse. The best bet is to hit the shower—get mobile—and become productive. 

Your state of mind usually brightens as the hours pass, with optimism peaking during the late morning. As the day wears on, however, it’s likely to cycle back with pessimism peaking again around 4:00 PM. During the early evening hours, optimism rises to a second emotional high point during the hours from 8:00 PM until midnight. 

How should you use your emotional high points, when you’re most adventuresome, upbeat, and expansive in your thinking?
